Fertilizer Friday - May 24th

We are having hot weather here in southern Ontario, and no rain in weeks. The ground is baked hard and it's a miracle anything is blooming at all.
I did manage to find a few blooms for Fertilizer Friday with Tootsie.
This gorgeous tree peony bloom was just a big bud last week.I think it was worth the wait!
'Hermann's Pride'
I just can't get enough of the Camassia this year
The Canadian Anemone

Gotta love this Globe Allium
The first of the Snow-in-summer
Iris
The first of the herbaceous Peony's
Now heading out to do a rain dance so there is something left to take photos of next week!

  4. I can't believe how dry it is here, and I'm wondering what it will be like as we head into summer. I'm watering every night in hopes my newly planted veggies and plants will get growing. You have a lot of lovely blooms.

  5. Hi Netty! I'm playing catch up again. I read your post about hosta fever this morning and found myself grinning. The same thing happened to me too, the green hostas found at a landfill led to green and white ones and then blue and yellow and well, the rest is history. I did the same thing with a lot of my plain orange daylilies, dug them out and offered them to someone else. Then someone showed me daylilies come in different colors and I became hooked on them too, lol! I always thought if the hybridizers could come up with a hosta with the gorgeous flowers of a daylily they would then have an almost perfect plant.

You have your hostas planted just the right distance apart (not glommed together like mine--which all need splitting) and they look fantastic.

We are hot and dry here, too. Storms have come near but as soon as they spot our neighborhood, they dissipate and all we get are a few drops. We've had a 1/8" of rain since the first of May. I'm worried just like you are, this is much too early in the season to be so dry.

Your peonies are so beautiful, how I love that color. The anemones and alliums are wonderful, too. Do you have to replant new allium bulbs every so often or do they continue to thrive year after year? I love those big globes even after they are done flowering.

Sorry to write a book, Netty...so good to visit with you again. Hope you have a great weekend!

  6. Every day I check the radar to see if there's rain coming and it seems to miss our town regularly. We are DESPERATE for rain here too. The farmers fields are apparently scorched - first frost and now scorching heat. What a year.

But you've managed to grow some lovely things despite the weather. Really like the camassia and the anemones - both are now on my "gotta have it" list.
